Approximately 12% of the region’s population is aged 62 or older, and this number will grow tremendously over the next two decades. The citizens of Rochester understand that providing safe, enjoyable living for the elderly is a crucial concern. That is why the voted to fund the construction of a new $14 million, 90,000 square foot senior center run by the Older Persons Commission (OPC). The OPC provides social and educational opportunities for those over the age of 50, in addition to serving nutritious meals to the homebound. The OPC also supplies transportation, exercise facilities and organized activities. With the combined efforts of the OPC and nearly a dozen retirement homes and care center, the Rochester area has been a great place to live an active, productive senior lifestyle.
